A pavilion of white stone rises up from the tranquil waters of a lake

This pavilion is designed as a memorial structure situated on a small island on a campus lake. It is designed around the proportion and stature of the Tuscan order which featured prominently in the design. The simple geometries and symmetries of the structure are intended to enhance the quiet, contemplative setting.

The building is composed of a central drum containing a statue surrounded by four square porticos that frame important vistas of the campus. It is crowned by a ring of reliefs pierced by clerestory windows and capped by a shallow dome with an oculus. This makes the central structure permeable to light and weather while maintaining a relationship between the human-made and natural worlds.
